About

SomeGuy.us is my personal blog. I've kept a personal site in one form or another since the mid-nineties, when publishing on your own domain felt like a small act rather than a marketing exercise. It still feels that way to me.

Most of what I post is short: poems, small reflections, and occasional notes from the corners of software I still like to tinker in. I'm working toward writing more about scripture β€” not sermon transcripts, but the smaller studies that come out of preparing to preach: a passage that opened up, a word worth sitting with, a connection I hadn't seen before.

The rest of my week I spend as a CPA running Killen & Associates, the firm my father started decades ago. Before that I was a software developer and web designer, which is why this site exists at all. I preach on Sundays at the Edisto Island Church of Christ.

Topics

Topics I write about on my blog, drawn from the site's current tag set:

  • Jesus, prayer, supplication, veneration, redemption, renewal, awakening, sin, slavery, accountability, morning, light, humor, haiku, fair

Longer-term I expect the mix to lean further toward scripture study notes alongside the poetry and short reflections.

my indie web setup

  • https://someguy.us/ is my primary home, where I post:
    • short poems, haiku, and reflections as articles
    • occasional scripture study notes as articles
  • The site publishes an Atom feed for subscribers and includes a blogroll.
  • Fediverse creator attribution (rel-me-style linkage back to my Mastodon account) is set in page metadata so replies and shares on the fediverse can be traced back to me.

authoring practices

Posts are authored as Markdown (with some Nunjucks templates for structural pages) in Visual Studio Code and committed to GitHub. See the colophon below for the full build stack.

silo presences

I treat silos as places I show up rather than places I live. Current presences, in rough order of how often I actually touch them:

I am not currently running an automatic POSSE pipeline; cross-posting, when it happens, is manual. Adding a proper POSSE flow (starting with Mastodon, since I control that endpoint) is on the list of things to work on.

working on

Rough, honest order:

  1. Writing more small scripture study notes here rather than letting them stay in preaching prep files
  2. Adding a modest automatic POSSE flow from my site to my self-hosted Mastodon
  3. Cleaning up and republishing older poems that have drifted through various site iterations since the nineties

want to work especially with

  • other bloggers writing about scripture from their own domains
  • Eleventy users with an indieweb bent
  • people running their own Mastodon instance who have thought through the site ↔ instance bridge
