Bryntum

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bryntum is an open source JavaScript library of UI components for building scheduling and project-management interfaces, including Gantt charts, calendars, and data grids. Developers use it to add these features to their own applications.[1] The project was started in 2009 by Mats Bryntse and is maintained by a community of contributors, with development coordinated in public repositories and released under a permissive license. It has been funded through community sponsorships and donations.[2]

History

[edit]

Bryntum originated as a side project of Mats Bryntse, a consultant at Sony Ericsson, who built a web-based scheduling tool as part of a test-tracking system; Sony Ericsson became the product's first customer.[3] Its first product, "Ext Scheduler," was announced on the Sencha developer forums in October 2009, and Bryntum AB was formally registered on 31 March 2011.[4]

Starting in 2016, the company rewrote its Ext JS-dependent products into a framework-agnostic suite, announcing new Grid and Scheduler components in September 2018,[5] followed by Gantt 1.0 in 2019[6] and TaskBoard, a Kanban-style component, in 2021.[7] The legacy Ext JS product line was announced end-of-life in July 2024, with support ending 31 December 2026.[8]

The company operates on a remote-first basis, with an office at Epicenter in Stockholm. Swedish business press reported group revenue growing from about SEK 20 million in 2021 to roughly SEK 52 million by 2024, with strong profitability throughout.[9]

On 5 June 2025, Adelis Equity Partners became Bryntum's majority shareholder,[10] ending sixteen years of sole founder ownership.[11]

Independently reported users of Bryntum's components include Netflix, which has used the scheduler component to schedule translators, along with Lufthansa and Ramco.[2]
