  • Comment: In preparing this draft, I disclose that AI assistance was used as follows: I do not have the chat transcript. I used grounding documents I wrote and fed into Microsoft Copilot. These are documents about company history and timeline, products. Then I asked the AI to add in references and citations to Gartner and other materials that needed citations. Cayosoft is a privately held American software company that develops administration, monitoring, and recovery tools for Microsoft identity environments, including Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, and Microsoft 365. Independent product analyses have described the company’s approach as combining day-to-day hybrid identity administration with change monitoring, rollback, and directory recovery.[1][2]

History

[edit]

Cayosoft was founded in 2013 by Robert Bobel and Andrey Polevoy. In a 2024 profile, Pulse 2.0 discussed the founders’ backgrounds in enterprise identity software, the company’s focus on hybrid Microsoft environments, and its development from administration software into monitoring and recovery products.[3]

The company initially concentrated on automating user, group, licensing, and delegated-administration tasks across on-premises Active Directory and Microsoft cloud services. It later expanded into change auditing, threat monitoring, rollback, and disaster recovery. Start with Identity characterized the resulting platform as strongest for Microsoft-centric organizations seeking administration and resilience in one product, while noting that its narrower Microsoft focus and limited cross-cloud behavioral analytics may make it less suitable for organizations seeking a detection-only or broad software-as-a-service identity-security platform.[4]

In 2021, Cayosoft added automated Active Directory forest recovery to its Guardian product line. Independent reviews subsequently examined Guardian as a combined monitoring and recovery product rather than solely as a backup utility. PeerSpot describes it as software for automated protection, anomaly detection, permissions oversight, and recovery, while Start with Identity places it in the identity threat detection and response market but emphasizes its operational-resilience focus.[5][6]

In March 2024, Cayosoft raised $22.5 million from Centana Growth Partners. Coverage of the financing described the company as a provider of hybrid directory-management and recovery software and reported that the investment was intended to support product development and international expansion.[7]

Products

[edit]

Cayosoft Administrator

[edit]

Cayosoft Administrator automates identity-lifecycle and delegated-administration tasks across hybrid Microsoft environments. In its detailed review, Expert Insights examined onboarding and offboarding, group lifecycle management, license optimization, delegated help-desk access, workflow controls, and audit history. The review identified broad hybrid-Microsoft coverage and policy-based delegation as strengths, while observing that the product is primarily suited to organizations already centered on Microsoft identity services.[8]

Cayosoft Guardian

[edit]

Cayosoft Guardian provides identity-change monitoring, threat detection, rollback, and recovery. Independent reviews describe its principal distinction as combining administration and monitoring with recovery of individual directory objects and entire Active Directory environments. Reviews also note limits associated with its Microsoft-specific scope and its emphasis on resilience rather than broader cross-cloud identity analytics.[9][10]

Patents

[edit]

Cayosoft is the assignee of United States patents covering directory-service recovery and administrative-unit management. U.S. Patent Nos. 12,093,141, 12,399,791, and 12,743,349, granted between September 2024 and September 2026, are related patents in a continuation family titled Systems and methods for directory service backup and recovery. They describe maintaining a standby directory service that can be implemented when a host directory service is interrupted. U.S. Patent No. 12,254,107, granted in March 2025, is titled Orchestration of administrative unit management and covers methods for evaluating and implementing directory-object membership changes across administrative units.[11][12]
