MUGnet is a Japanese fan-based circle that creates visual novels.

Overview

[edit]

Under the slogan "Questioning the World," the circle creates works that explore philosophical themes such as perspectives on life and happiness. Its works are characterized by a fusion of story-driven scenarios and graphic expressions that enhance immersion. Through the visual novels it produces, the circle offers players a different perspective on the world.

The circle's name, "MUGnet," is a portmanteau combining English slang, the nature of the circle's activities, and the homonym "magnet." Zakinu, one of the founders, revealed in an official note post that the name was derived from the following two elements.[1]

  • MUG: English slang meaning a "fool" or "gullible person."
  • net:Derived from the internet-based nature of their activities.

Although the spelling differs from the actual English word "magnet," this is intentional rather than a typo.

It conveys the meaning that "fools (MUG) active on the internet (net) attract or involve people like a magnet."[1]
