Wikipedia is not a marketing platform

Merge AQL

[edit]

I would like to propose AQL (ArangoDB Query Language) be merged into this article. The language is used only within this product, and is not notable in its own right. The current page describing it is a poorly-sourced stub, and would be better off as a section of this article giving a brief explanation of AQL as a feature of the product. - IMSoP (talk) 17:41, 12 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Done. Merged into ArangoDB § Query language. — Newslinger talk 08:39, 21 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • What I think should be changed: Add a new section after the funding paragraph, titled "Rebrand and AI platform", with the following text:
In October 2025, the company behind ArangoDB announced that it was changing its name to Arango, with a new brand identity and website. ArangoDB remained the name of the database itself.[1] The company launched the Arango AI Data Platform, a product built on ArangoDB that combines graph, vector, document and key-value data with full-text search.[2] In March 2026, Arango announced version 4.0 of its Contextual Data Platform, which added AI tools including AutoGraph, AutoRAG and an AI assistant called Ada.[3][4]
  • Why it should be changed: The article does not mention the 2025 company rebrand or the AI platform products, so it is out of date. I am an intern at Arango and have a conflict of interest, so I am requesting this edit rather than making it myself. The proposed wording is intended to be neutral and factual.
  • References supporting the possible change: See the citations in the proposed text above.

As written, the article is about the product, not the company, so I think we should be careful how much we cover other products. I'm not totally clear how "Contextual Data Platform" relates to the main "ArangoDB"; it's not currently mentioned at all in this article, so either we need to include a proper explanation of what it is, if it's relevant to the main topic; or avoid it completely, if it's just advertising a different product from the same company.
The infobox currently lists the Developer as "ArangoDB GmbH"; it's unclear from the given reference whether or not this is still the formal name of the company, with "Arango" as just the trading brand. If there is a new formal name, it would be good to confirm what it is; if not, I don't know what Wikipedia policy is on formulations like "ArangoDB GmbH trading as Arango". The same goes for the history section: are we saying "ArangoDB GmbH changed its registered name to Arango GmbH", or are we saying "The company changed its primary brand from ArangoDB to Arango"?
I've updated the website URL, though, because that seems uncontroversial; sourcing an appropriate image of the new version of the avocado logo to replace File:ArangoDB Logo.png would also be useful, I think. And thanks for bringing this to our attention, and declaring the conflict of interest. :) IMSoP (talk) 16:22, 26 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, that's helpful! On the name: the company's imprint page (https://arango.ai/legal/imprint/) still lists the legal entities as ArangoDB Inc. and ArangoDB GmbH, and Arango's announcements describe a change of brand, so "Arango" appears to be a trading name rather than a new registered name. Your first reading (the infobox is still correct and the history should say the company changed its primary brand) fits that. On scope, I agree the article is about the database. A narrower version could be one sentence in the history: in October 2025 the company behind ArangoDB rebranded as Arango, and ArangoDB remains the name of the database. The Contextual Data Platform could be left out, or mentioned in a single sentence as a product built on ArangoDB, whichever you prefer. Context123 (talk) 16:54, 26 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I've added a short paragraph about the rebrand, and left the other mentions as-is for now. Thanks again for the constructive discussion. - IMSoP (talk) 15:57, 27 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for adding the rebrand paragraph! For the infobox, the new logo is the profile picture of the company's official GitHub organization: https://github.com/arangodb (image: https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/5547849?s=280&v=4). Would you be able to upload it? Context123 (talk) 17:38, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
