Cmd.exe → Command Prompt (Windows) – Per Wikipedia:Consistent and Wikipedia:Overprecise. cmd.exe is technically the file name for "Command Prompt" in Windows, but the program itself already has a proper name of it's own, "Command Prompt". Furthermore, most other specific windows programs and features have the string in the article name's end "(Windows)", like Control Panel (Windows), Mail (Windows), Calendar (Windows), Photos (Windows), and some more, so as to keep consistency with them rather than having the name of the .exe, and "cmd" is a shorthand for "Command" in the .exe name. Agree - most if not all other articles for Windows apps that have a friendly name don't have their executable file name as the title. This includes other Windows apps like Windows Registry and Group Policy. Best regards, MikeM2011 (talk) 23:14, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
