after the infobox delete the empty line Anonym00s3 (talk) 21:22, 13 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

I deleted the line before the DISPLAYTITLE, which removed the extra whitespace. —MRD2014 📞 contribs 23:37, 13 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Kpgjhpjm 13:05, 7 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge with Tik Tok

[edit]

They are the same app just renamed, they should share one page with the musical.ly information added to the other page. Zubin12 (talk) 02:14, 9 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

TikTok is a separate app in China and it started out as its own app, there's a reason why its called TikTok with Musical.ly now — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.13.77.4 (talk) 16:43, 27 September 2018 (UTC) But now there are allegations that the Chinese Government was taking information and data from the users' accounts. Are they true?Reply

Proposed merge with TikTok

[edit]

Same App one of which is just a renamed version of the other. Zubin12 (talk) 10:45, 9 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Strong oppose, musical.ly and TikTok are two separate apps. The app musical.ly was merged with TikTok 2 August 2018. Even then, musical.ly was a standalone app that's older than TikTok. TikTok or Douyin was the newer app of the two. UpsandDowns1234 (talk) 16:31, 25 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. The branding and app store pages has lost all reference of musical.ly (except the publisher name on the Apple App Store), and TikTok has the same feature-set of Musically. 5.198.117.21 (talk) 19:45, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

GermanJoe - you reverted my edit to the Musical.ly article. I saw an anonymous user subsequently changed the dab again, removing the wikilink. I'd like to explain the issue. The citeweb guidelines indicate that you can add a wikilink for the web parameter. However, in the case of Bloomberg you added an link to a disambiguation page, which is counter to the policy of not linking directly to disambiguation pages (see WP:DAB). Note that such links are flagged under the WP:WPDAB project as articles to be fixed. By changing the link to a piped link [[Bloomberg News|Bloomberg]] I kept your original wording but removed the amibiguous link. Because you reverted the change, the anonymous user apparently decided to remove the wikilink altogether and repeat the url domain www.bloomberg.com. I think a wikilink is more useful since the url already includes a clickable external ink to the reference and users would have to type www.bloomberg.com to navigate there. The wikilink is helpful -- it just needs to be unambiguous.Coastside (talk)

@Coastside: I have restored your change (I was probably more focussed on the spam removal (from another editor) and missed the complete context of this specific change). Thank you for pointing this out and for your efforts to improve such Wiki-links. GermanJoe (talk) 18:45, 5 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Was it Chinese prior to Tiktok merger?

Add revival info

[edit]

On February 2026, a TikTok user whose handle is @valoria.ly had started their own Musical.ly revival using the genuine Musical.ly app named Valoria (formerly Valoria.ly.)

On February 2026, a TikTok user whose handle is @valoria.ly had started their own Musical.ly revival using the genuine Musical.ly app named Valoria (formerly Valoria.ly.) Their web domain is https://valoria-social.com. The first video of the revival in question is here.

Not done: Apologies for not being clearer yesterday. What I meant by providing reliable sources is that this "revival" needs to be reported on by reliable, secondary sources before it can be included in the article. I could start a revival of Vine today, but it wouldn't be notable enough to put in that article unless a reliable news outlet (or three) decided to cover it. If that's already happened with Valoria, please provide those links here. If not, wait until then and open a new request. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 14:09, 28 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Request to add Alex Hofmann to the Growth section

[edit]

The current article covers Musical.ly’s growth, Live.ly, and the ByteDance acquisition, but does not mention Hofmann’s role in leading the company’s North American operations during this period. The proposed addition adds sourced management context without changing the broader structure of the article.

Suggested placement:

In the "History" → "Growth" section, after the paragraph describing Musical.ly's early U.S. growth and before the paragraph covering the 2016 launch of Live.ly.

Requested text:

In May 2015, Alex Hofmann joined Musical.ly as CEO of North America, overseeing its expansion in the United States. During his tenure, the platform grew to more than 200 million registered users globally and expanded into livestreaming through Live.ly, alongside partnerships with major music and media companies. Hofmann departed in January 2018, following Musical.ly’s acquisition by ByteDance.
