Proposal: Swap Passkeys (authentication) and Passkey (authentication)

[edit]

Given that the industry seems to have coalesced around the singular "Passkeys" as the name of the standard, we should probably have the latter redirect to the former, rather than the other way around. ... richi (hello) 10:48, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

So what a passkey is? Before continuing to usage and advantages, the article only states it is a credential. But so is password. And so is username, too. What does make the passkey special? GoldDragon256 (talk) 13:05, 15 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, i'm reminded of locally stored SSH certificates to access some remote host, as a credential.
If the passkey credential is compared directly with the other side (like PAP), i'd think it would be more secure to compare some computational result based on the passkeys of both sides (like CHAP), where the credential does NOT get transmitted. 93.238.245.90 (talk) 07:57, 28 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

this article needs a drawbacks subsection in addition to the benefits one. The computerphile video mentions some, in particular the possibility of lockout by losing access to one's client or authenticator. MoltenOak (talk) 14:31, 1 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
