Richard Bramwell Taylor (1837 - 29 April 1907) was an English businessman and philanthropist. In 1870, he co-founded the Manchester and Salford Boys' and Girls' Refuges and Homes, which now operates as the Together Trust.[2]
Early life
[edit]Richard was born to Sarah and Thomas Taylor on 1837 in the town of Steel, in Southport, England. He grew up in a schoolhouse in the town of Wem, and later, by the 1850's, came to find employment in Manchester as a draper assistant at Kendal, Milne and Faulkner.[2]
Charitable work
[edit]Richard met Leonard Kilbee Shaw when they were both working as Sunday teachers at St Ann's Ragged School on Queen Street; he founded the Manchester and Salford Boys' and Girls' Refuges and Homes together with him on 1870, opening their first children's home on January 4 of that year.[2][3]
Death
[edit]Richard Taylor died on 29 April 1907 at his home in Southport, where he had earlier moved in with his wife.[2]
