Hi. I'm Normospheric.
I'm interested in independent and genre film, media art, experimental culture, net culture, and various neglected corners of popular culture. I have a particular weakness for horror and cult film, media-art history, strange technologies, and subjects that somehow ended up with a tiny Wikipedia article despite having a surprisingly interesting history.
A lot of my interests overlap. Experimental cinema and contemporary art, hacker culture and political activism, popular entertainment and technological history. I'm particularly drawn to people, projects, and cultural phenomena that don't fit neatly into one category.
Areas of interest
[edit]- Independent, experimental and genre cinema – Horror films, found-footage cinema, underground filmmaking, documentary practices, exploitation film, and the less fashionable corners of film history.
- Media art and its histories – Video art, Net.art, Computer art, Sound art, Kinetic art, Robotic art, and the artists, collectives, publications, and institutions associated with them.
- Art, technology and politics – Early internet culture, Hacktivism, artistic interventions, Circuit bending, experimental technologies, and the intersection of art and political activism.
- Alternative culture and assorted oddities – Artist-run initiatives, unconventional video games, subcultures, forgotten cultural experiments, and occasional excursions into things that probably seemed like a good idea at the time.
Editing approach
[edit]Most of my editing involves expanding thin articles, replacing dubious or dead sources, cleaning up bloated sections, and digging through old newspapers, specialist magazines, academic publications, exhibition catalogues, and archives for better references.
I'm especially interested in documenting subjects that have received serious coverage but remain poorly represented on Wikipedia. Sometimes that means creating a new article; more often it means improving an existing one.
I tend to edit in binges: a few days or weeks of going down rabbit holes, opening way too many tabs, fixing whatever I find along the way, and then vanishing again for a wiki vacation.
I often work on bigger edits offline or in a sandbox and then move them over in chunks. A lot of the rest is pretty mundane: source fixes, redirects, categories, links, and small corrections.
A few other things
[edit]I'm a returning editor under a new account. The old one became collateral damage in the administrative archaeology of an ex, a shared email account, and decisions that seemed perfectly reasonable at the time. It's complicated.
Anyway: new account, same encyclopedia. Back in the game.
If you'd like to discuss an edit, suggest a source, or point out something I've got wrong, feel free to leave a message on my talk page.
I also enjoy turning {{citation needed}} into citations.
