My username is Slackintosh (/ˈslækɪntɒʃ/ SLAK-in-tosh). I am a user on Wikipedia who lives in California, United States. Joined on August 7, 2023, I mainly focus on Apple technology and read Apple-related articles. I read, but rarely edit, some articles that go in my mind, including those about technology and film. When editing, I usually edit grammar and formatting errors, and fix typos, but I also update information and add references.
Meaning
[edit]The name "Slackintosh" is a reference to my original interests. My name is a portmanteau of "slack" and "Macintosh". To the tech-savvy users, you may know that Slackintosh is a port made by Slackware, a Linux distribution, for the New World ROM on PowerPC-based Macintosh models—but that's not why I chose this name.
The actual reason why comes to this things: in my name, "Slack" comes from my enjoyment of laziness doing random things the time I created my account. I enjoy Mac products, though I didn't know whether or not I should use parts of the term "Macintosh". Later, I decided to combine the two parts to form the username "Slackintosh", making it rhyme with "Macintosh". This could also be a reference to Steve Jobs.
History
[edit]I discovered Wikipedia around 2021 or 2022, mainly reading random articles on the mobile website using a fifth-generation iPad mini.[a] I've also used other people's phones and computers (not tablets) at the time to go on Wikipedia.
I've joined Wikipedia on August 7, 2023, when I was looking forward to the site and wanted to allow editing privileges without displaying the IP address. Back then, I mostly edited articles related to Apple using the desktop website on a 2017 MacBook Air.[b] Some of the edits that I made were stupid since I didn't know much about Wikipedia except the fact it is the free encyclopedia. I've also edited articles based on suggestions given. I became an auto-confirmed user on August 11, 2023.
After one month, I focused on reading more than editing, and only edited Wikipedia when I needed to edit my user-related information. This led to the number of my contributions being slowed down – and even stop for a few months. For example, my contributions say that after April 2024, I did not edit Wikipedia again until September 2024. I also once edited as an IP because I did not notice my user being logged out.
In January 2026, my edits started to accelerate. After months of learning about the Manual of Style and deeper understanding of Wikipedia, the number of edits began to skyrocket in June 2026. This led to more accurate improvements to grammar, formatting, and typos. I also update some outdated or incomplete information, as well as adding a few references.
I became an extended-confirmed user on June 12, 2026, followed by becoming a temporary account IP viewer on July 23. On August 7, 2026, I started to test edits with Twinkle as a practice of reverting vandalism and disruptive edits. On August 10, I started to do the same when I started to patrol "Recent changes".
Interests
[edit]Contributions
[edit]Most of the edits I make are on Apple-related products. I mainly improve grammar or formatting errors. Over time, my edits start to get better and more accurate with refined improvements over language.
Vandalism and disruptive editing
[edit]I've also reverted vandalism and other disruptive editing, though this happens either occasionally or when I decide to do it. I do so by checking Recent changes to search for vandalism. To check whether it's a disruptive edit or not, because I have a MacBook Air, I use Force Touch on my trackpad to preview these revisions. When I find an edit possibly disruptive, I click on the preview, revert that edit, and warn the user who made that change.
Pending changes
[edit]Currently, I don't know what pending changes are and what they do, but I am learning about them and looking forward to review pending changes as another way to reduce disruptive editing.
How I contribute
[edit]Since December 2023, I contribute using a 2022 MacBook Air with the M2 chip (though it wasn't until January 2024 when I made my first edit since I got that model). My computer has 256 GB[c] of storage and 8 GB of RAM, and is running macOS Tahoe.[d] I was supposed to have the MacBook Air with the M1 chip since it was the cheapest laptop sold by Apple the time I got my first computer. However, I got the M2 model, which benefitted me for the Liquid Retina display, a MagSafe charging port, and more features that the M1 doesn't have.
Before December 2023, I contributed using a computer that I actually did not own: the 2017 MacBook Air.
Other devices
[edit]I've owned and used other devices. I own an iPhone 16 Plus since December 2024. I've been thinking about getting a phone since 2023, starting with the iPhone 15, followed by the iPhone 16 Pro in 2024. I got the iPhone 16 Plus instead because someone wanted to spend less money, despite me knowing that the Pro was better.
In addition, I've also used someone else's 27-inch iMac from 2019. Through September 2022, I used a fifth-generation iPad mini. From October 2022 to December 2025, I used a ninth-generation iPad.
I've also used even older devices before that time, usually tablets. Very early examples include a Hewlett-Packard tablet running Android (I'm not sure what model it is exactly, but it could be an HP Slate 7), and Apple's iPad mini 2 running iOS. None of them, along with any iMac, iPad, and iPhone, are used to edit or log in to Wikipedia.

Notes
[edit]- ↑ The device is now broken by accident since September 2022.
- ↑ I don't actually own the 2017 MacBook Air; it belonged to someone else.
- ↑ I actually have 245.11 GB of storage; the reduction is due to the pre-installed apps and/or the size of macOS.
- ↑ Starting September 14, 2026, my computer was supposed to be on macOS Golden Gate, but it says I don't have enough storage.
