2026 Musée Renoir theft

[edit]

Someone has vandalized the article 2026 Musée Renoir theft again, can you fix it? Thanks MrCryptoNerd (talk) 12:09, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I've also protected it. 331dot (talk) 12:11, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. can you teach me how you reverted it? MrCryptoNerd (talk) 12:13, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you have Twinkle enabled, you can do it via the "vandalism" link next to the edit in the edit history, which doesn't require displaying the edit(which as you know blocks everything else on the page for some reason). I think you can also do it in the edit history by simply opening an old edit and saving. 331dot (talk) 12:15, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

LLM at BLPN

[edit]

A few weeks back I actually started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard#LLM reports here about LLM use specifically on BLPN, though it didn't get much participation. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:09, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. 331dot (talk) 22:12, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I also want to be clear that I understand you weren't going to collapse that recent report, but I think we should develop a general consensus about LLM use at BLPN. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:13, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you again, I've briefly weighed in there. 331dot (talk) 22:22, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Draft:Nevine Michaan — revised sourcing, following your decline

[edit]

Hi 331dot. You declined Draft:Nevine Michaan on 5 September for insufficient coverage. I've substantially revised the sourcing since then. Given the current post-summer backlog, would you be willing to take another look yourself, since you're already familiar with the draft? Happy to point to the specific passages if useful.

Thanks much for your time. Sentinelfoxfire (talk) 09:46, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Out of fairness to you, I will need to decline, I think that the more eyes that look at a draft, the better. 331dot (talk) 09:50, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question about permitted process under my topic ban

[edit]

Hello 331dot,

I was recently unblocked after agreeing to a topic ban covering myself and other conflict-of-interest subjects. I want to fully respect that restriction and do not want to edit or create an article about myself directly.

I have identified several published sources that contain coverage of my professional work and background. I would like to ask what Wikipedia-compliant process I may use to make those sources available for an independent editor to assess.

I am not asking for preferential treatment or for anyone to guarantee that an article will be accepted. I only want to understand the appropriate process under my current topic ban.

Thank you. Anilbistapyuthani (talk) 15:37, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

You cannot ask others to edit for you to get around the topic ban.
Leaving that aside, the Requested Articles area is backlogged to the point of uselessness. I strongly advise you to abandon efforts to get an article created about you. If you truly merit one, someone independent of you and unsolicited will eventually write one. An article about yourself is also not necessarily something to desire.
Please also see the scam warning. 331dot (talk) 15:52, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Frankly, I view this request, Anilbistapyuthani, as a violation of your topic ban. I won't take any steps at this time, but you need to stop. --Yamla (talk) 16:07, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I didn't want to say so yet, but I absolutely concur. 331dot (talk) 16:31, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Page protection

[edit]

Hello 331dot! Thank you for protecting Death of Parker Wells against vandalism. However, I noticed the notice/template on the article states it was protected under the biographies of living persons policy, but the subject is actually deceased. Could you maybe update the protection template to a general vandalism protection notice? Thank you. Reptileraptor52 (talk) 18:03, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

The Biographies of living persons policy generally applies for six months to a year, maybe two, after death, depending on the person. See WP:BDP. 331dot (talk) 18:15, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Race to the WH

[edit]

Hi @331dot, The TA has tried to reinstate the non-notable forecaster on dozens of pages, thanks for reverting on the SC Senate one. Additional context is at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MAWJ The Awesome, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Race to the WH (2nd nomination), and The Bushranger's talk page, but long story short, they appear to be part of a group of sock TAs. aesurias (she/her) (talk) 07:53, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Wonder if they are from Race to the WH. 331dot (talk) 07:59, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
My personal theory is that they're part of a group of Election Twitter users who just like the website. There are a number of accounts with incredibly suspicious overlap with MAWJ that don't strike me as the same person, so I can only assume there is some sort of coordinated editing, esp. looking at the two most recent threads on User talk:Yoblyblob. aesurias (she/her) (talk) 08:02, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Being kind at BLPN

[edit]

You responded to a request for help at BLPN by telling the OP that his father shouldn't be proud of something he was proud of.

This didn't address the request in any way. Didn't serve the goals of BLPN at all. It comes across simply as a pointless dig at someone's dad.

If you cannot try to treat posters with kindness, or at the very least avoid pointless antagonism of them, perhaps WP:BLPN is not the board for you. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 19:59, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

I don't see how what I said was unkind. I would certainly want to know if there were negative aspects about being on a global encyclopedia, like an article about me being vandalized or changed to say something that wasn't true, or bad things I have done in my life that I might not want people to know being added to it. I think I was doing them both a favor, the opposite of being unkind.
I don't appreciate being told where I should and shouldn't participate. 331dot (talk) 20:01, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
"I don't appreciate being told where I should and shouldn't participate." Perhaps other people wouldn't appreciate being told what they should and shouldn't be proud of. I am sorry to hear that you don't understand the problem with that. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 20:09, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Would you not want to know that there are negative aspects about being included in a global encyclopedia? Should I withhold such information from people? I see zero indication that the poster was offended by hearing this simple truth. You're not a mind reader; I accept that people can view comments differently than they are intended; but please assume good faith. I'm trying to help, not hurt. 331dot (talk) 20:14, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I apologize; I let my emotion get the better of me. But I'm trying to help here. 331dot (talk) 20:17, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I accept that you were trying to help. But you didn't just say "you may want to consider the down sides of having a Wikipedia page"; an old man found something to be proud in, and you poohpoohed that pride, if not directly to his face, then to the person here representing his interests. Particularly at older ages, pride in what you've done and what recognition you've gotten is something to hold onto. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 00:23, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I acknowledge your differing perspective, but I would appreciate the same. I think it would be far more damaging to his pride for him to see an article about him vandalized to say something that's not true or, if he hasn't had a perfect life, things added to it that he might not want added, rather than saying "maybe this isn't something you should want". He/his representative should have all the information they can before going in to this, as it's hard to get something off the internet once it's on it.
If you want me to say that I did something wrong, I'm sorry, I can't, because I don't feel that I did. 331dot (talk) 08:03, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, the good article criteria have been amended to add accessibility requirements.
  • Following an RfC, late signatures added to administrator recall petitions after 720 hours from opening are reverted or struck and do not count towards the threshold, even if the petition has not yet been formally closed.
  • The post-May 2026 administrator elections RfCs concluded with consensus for election monitors to curate blatantly inappropriate questions after posting, and to remove or merge true duplicates, clearly marking merged questions. Calls for candidates will include advisory guidance that users with less than one year’s experience or 5,000 edits generally lack a realistic chance of success.

Technical news

  • Interface administrators no longer need to specify the ResourceLoader option in the definitions for gadgets on MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition as gadgets are always loaded through ResourceLoader. (T298199)
  • The list=abusefilters API module now supports formatversion=2 and includes breaking changes to its responses. In particular, the actions property is now a JSON array rather than a string, regardless of the format version. Maintainers of user scripts and other code using this module should check compatibility and update their code as needed. (T435828)

Obituaries

  • Doug Weller passed away on 30 September 2026. Doug Weller began editing Wikipedia in 2006 and became an administrator in 2008, making nearly 275,000 edits over two decades. He served on the Arbitration Committee from 2015 through 2018 and was also a longtime CheckUser and Oversighter.

Request for Review – Emirate of the Eastern Province

[edit]

Hello 331dot,

I recently submitted an English Wikipedia draft about the Emirate of the Eastern Province in Saudi Arabia, based on the existing Arabic Wikipedia article. The draft includes references, official information, and an infobox. I have also disclosed my professional relationship with the organization and my use of AI-assisted translation. I would be grateful if you could review the draft when you have an opportunity, or advise me on any improvements needed for it to meet Wikipedia's publishing requirements. I understand that reviews are handled by volunteers and that acceptance depends on Wikipedia's policies. Draft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Emirate_of_the_Eastern_Province_(Saudi_Arabia)

Second look at an IP/TA?

[edit]

Hi 331dot, you may recall a bit over a month ago removing, then re-adding and extending the block on User talk:~2026-49531-22. The day after their block expired, they returned to the talk page with more personal attacks and aspersions. They're still steadfastly refusing to provide any sources, despite repeated requests. They're also making oblique threats (i.e. "I could do this but I won't...") to blank other portions of the article in retaliation to prove a point. Given the reasons for renewing the block (inability to engage constructively) seems like they need the block renewed (to User:~2026-55457-89 and User:~2026-55610-83, the current TAs) and extended further. ⇒SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 19:48, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
