Speedy deletion nomination of User:Boute
[edit]
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. A tag has been placed on User:Boute requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Contested deletion
[edit]This page should not be speedily deleted because it is the draft of a concept to be placed on the talk page for the Wikipedia article Functions (mathematics). This purpose is clearly stated under the heading Rationale and is fully in the interest of Wikipedia goals. Remark: putting up this page for deletion is an act of intellectual vandalism, potentially destroying a full week's work. Will the person responsible for this action please come in the open? --Boute (talk) 18:08, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
Function
[edit]Once again, thank you for your kindness.
Regarding the article, for formality's sake, I made a change HERE (which did not modify the old definition but placed it in a better context) and a summary in the discussion. I expected it to be immediately reverted - however, if something were to change in the future, it could perhaps be an argument that a certain group of people clung to the wrong/old version and did not allow for corrections/improvements to be made to the article - using non-substantive argumentation ("they disagree and that's it" and silence). You rightly observed that they are behaving like children.
I even heard a saying once: "whoever behaves like a child at the age of 20, will remain a fool for the rest of their life".

- Thanks for keeping me updated. I visit these pages only once a year around February, checking progress.
- A recently accepted article on functions is , where many definitional design choices and their consequences are discussed. It became a bit inflated due to an excess of "suggestions". Boute (talk) 14:37, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

Please stop attacking other editors. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. I've already told you that "vandalism" has a very specific meaning on Wikipedia. And whether or not you think my closure was inappropriate, it is not vandalism. Continuing to call it that is generally considered a personal attack. If this continues, I'll likely seek sanctions. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 16:38, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- I'd also advise you to read WP:STICK. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 16:44, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- In my comment, I clearly recognized the difference between the definition of vandalism in wikipedia and in common usage, so it cannot be a personal attack. I never attack other editors, only their persistence in maintaining a clear logical error. Ad rem is not ad hominem
- Question A : why do you consider the issue dead (I enjoyed reading STICK) if the error is still there? This is not a matter of opinion, it is explained in every logic textbook.
- Question B: why encourage the gamification of Wikipedia rather than considering the interests of the reading community?
- Thet answers could restore my belief in the good faith of your actions. Note that Wikipedia is facing serious competition from AI, where one can already find much more reliable info on mathematical matters. Intellectual honesty rather than playing the wiki game is the only way to stay competitive. Please take the trouble to reply. Boute (talk) 17:16, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Your explanation is insufficient. Besides the fact that it doesn't even meet the normal, everyday definition of wikt:vandalism, this is Wikipedia, and I've explained what it means here, and when not to use it, and you continued to do so. You're wasting everyone's time, and I'm not engaging in any further discussion. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 17:39, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Concentrating on the semantics of the word vandalism and ignoring all the essential issues is cherry picking. Have you ever wondered why mathematicians of repute have stopped editing the article on functions? The reason I comment only about once a year or less is because the article is monopolized by people with an abundance of time to waste. There is ample sociological literature on that Wikipedia phenomenon.
- I am gradually reaching the conclusion that this specific article is a lost cause, and with the growth of AI perhaps Wikipedia as a whole. Why should I waste my time?Boute (talk) 20:51, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
