Hello, CaptureTerra!

I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Getting Started

Tutorial
Learn everything you need to know to get started.

The Teahouse
Ask questions and get help from experienced editors.

The Task Center
Learn what Wikipedians do and discover how to help. Has a list of maintenance tasks you can do.

Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue on the article's talk page. Be civil, and reach a consensus there before restoring the edit.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source. Do not use AI-generated text.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Exclamation mark

[edit]

The Use–mention distinction can cause difficulties anyway but particularly so in the case of single characters or symbols, such as the one you identified. Wikipedia tends not to use quotation marks for that purpose, usually preferring the IPA "angle brackets" convention thus: ⟨!⟩. But that convention is not widely known and could lead to even more confusion. Surrounding the symbol with a box, using the char (thus: !) works after a fashion but is not always obvious, especially to people with impaired sight. I have changed your version to use commas instead, which is only arguably better. There is no perfect solution . --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 11:20, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Minor edits

[edit]

Just a tip for the future, not anything significant. Your Swapped the previous layout as it had the 19th century before the 17th century was a good edit but arguably not a "minor edit", which is defined as a trivial correction of grammar or spelling - see WP:Minor edit for the long version. Size doesn't matter: to change now to not or vice versa is just a one letter change but is certainly not minor, So it is best not to tag an edit as minor unless it really is trivial.

Thank you! Do you reckon they purposefully made it the 19th century before the 17th century, or was that a mistake of their part? CaptureTerra (talk) 19:31, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
