Hello, welcome to my talk page!

If you want to leave a message, please do it at the bottom, as a new section, for better formatting. You can do that by simply clicking the plus sign (+), "New section", or "Add topic" at the top of this page. And don't forget to sign your messages with four tildes, like this: ~~~~

Attention: I prefer to keep discussions unfragmented. If you leave a comment for me here, I will most likely respond to it on this same page—my talk page—as an effort to keep the entire conversation in one place. By the same token, if I leave a comment on your talk page, please respond to it there. Remember, we can use our watchlist and topic subscriptions to keep track of when responses are made. At the same time, feel free to send an alert to me on this page about a comment you have left elsewhere.

Thank you!

Administrators' newsletter – October 2026

[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2026).

Administrator changes

Oversight changes

removed

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, the good article criteria have been amended to add accessibility requirements.
  • Following an RfC, late signatures added to administrator recall petitions after 720 hours from opening are reverted or struck and do not count towards the threshold, even if the petition has not yet been formally closed.
  • The post-May 2026 administrator elections RfCs concluded with consensus for election monitors to curate blatantly inappropriate questions after posting, and to remove or merge true duplicates, clearly marking merged questions. Calls for candidates will include advisory guidance that users with less than one year’s experience or 5,000 edits generally lack a realistic chance of success.

Technical news

  • Interface administrators no longer need to specify the ResourceLoader option in the definitions for gadgets on MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition as gadgets are always loaded through ResourceLoader. (T298199)
  • The list=abusefilters API module now supports formatversion=2 and includes breaking changes to its responses. In particular, the actions property is now a JSON array rather than a string, regardless of the format version. Maintainers of user scripts and other code using this module should check compatibility and update their code as needed. (T435828)

Arbitration

Obituaries

  • Doug Weller passed away on 30 September 2026. Doug Weller began editing Wikipedia in 2006 and became an administrator in 2008, making nearly 275,000 edits over two decades. He served on the Arbitration Committee from 2015 through 2018 and was also a longtime CheckUser and Oversighter.

Deletion Guy Katz

[edit]

Hi ComplexRational,

the original article was indeed justifiably deleted by you, as its relevance was not demonstrated or supported by external sources.

However, in place of the article that was also deleted from the German Wikipedia, there is now a significantly better German article: .

Based on that, there is now also an English draft , which should meet the requirements for demonstrating relevance. In addition, Katz has since then received the main award (Personality Award) of the renowned Margot Friedländer Prize https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margot_Friedl%C3%A4nder_Preis.

I don't really know the rules of the English Wikipedia very well, so my question is: Is your approval as a deleting admin enough to move the draft (supplemented with the Friedländer Prize) into the article namespace, or is going to Wikipedia:Deletion review necessary? (this is the procedure on the German Wikipedia: first ask the admin and only if he says 'no' go to deletion review)

Greets from Germany

@Feliks: Thanks for reaching out. Deletion review is only used when there is reason to believe a deletion was made in error – such as incorrect application of the criteria for speedy deletion or misreading of consensus at a deletion discussion – such that a previously-deleted page may be restored. It is not a venue for discussing content of the deleted page; if anything, a deletion review may result in the deletion discussion being reopened. When such errors occur, it usually is best practice to first ask the deleting admin at their talk page, though since your question is about publishing a new page rather than restoring a previously-deleted one, the process is somewhat different. No approval from the deleting admin is required provided the new page is substantially different from the old one – which is indeed the case here.
The new draft should instead be evaluated independently through the articles for creation process. If the subject is indeed notable now, the draft will be published to article space. That effectively supersedes the original deletion discussion – for that only concerned the old version where notability was lacking – and any outstanding doubts about notability must be addressed in a new discussion. Additionally, notability criteria are independent on each Wikipedia: the existence of an article on German Wikipedia does not automatically imply that a substantially similar article would meet English Wikipedia's content standards, or vice versa. I am unable to review the draft myself now, as offline responsibilities are taking up much of my time, though you may follow the directions at this page to submit it for review. You're Welcome! 😊
== Boo! ==
Zahrazamedahmedi has given you some caramel and a candy apple! Caramel and candy-coated apples are fun Halloween treats, and promote WikiLove on Halloween. Hopefully these have made your Halloween (and the preceding days) much sweeter. Happy Halloween!

'"On Psych, A USA Network TV series Episode 8, The Tao of Gus, Season 6, Shawn refers to pumpkins as "Halloween Apples" because he thinks all round fruits are a type of apple.

If Trick-or-treaters come your way, add {{subst:Halloween apples}} to their talkpage with a spoooooky message!

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, election to ArbCom now requires at least 60% support. Successful candidates normally serve two-year terms, with one-year terms retained for filling vacancies. Proposals to change the election rules may now be added throughout the year and discussed on the talk page; formal discussion remains in September.
  • Following an RfC, first-time reviewers’ reviews require an experienced reviewer’s check, and GA requirements now include alt text and accessible tables. Featured articles may receive GA status during removal discussions if they meet GA criteria. Backlog drives will run every five months, with a points leaderboard and awards for the top five participants.
