Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), broadly construed, including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
Also note that per WP:CT/IMH, you are not permitted to edit articles relating to Indian military history until your account is 30 days old and has made 500 edits. FDW777 (talk) 10:03, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- Also a similar restriction applies to social groups, explicitly including caste associations, see WP:CT/SASG. FDW777 (talk) 10:07, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- I refer you to the above messages, and request that you stop editing subjects you are not permitted to edit at present, specifically edits relating to Inidian military history and South Asian social groups. FDW777 (talk) 17:38, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
- Lodi is an Afghan clan originating in Central Asia, and is not culturally, ethnically, genetically, geographically, by cuisine, historically or linguistically one with the Indian subcontinent. Afghanistan was not conquered by British India so I don't know what stretch of definition is being used exactly? HistoricalWriting (talk) 16:03, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
- After a closer inspection of your contribs, almost every single edit of yours violates WP:CT/CASTE or WP:CT/IMH (which I have reverted).
- Please note that Afghanistan falls within the South Asia region as stated by WP:CT/SA and this includes their social groups/tribes as well.
- Please also note you are only allowed to use the talk page for requesting edits on such pages, not for ranting or POV pushing.
- I suggest you cease this type of editing, any further violations will certainly get you reported and blocked.
- Thank you for your time and regards. WareWolf665 (talk) 20:17, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not able to list Afghanistan as part of the Indian subcontinent for geographic, linguistic, historical or ethnic reasons, it was able to do so for political reasons since Afghanistan wasn't conquered by the Russian Empire hence was the only 'Stan' country that ever existed, and then after colonial rule Pakistan. Soviet-Central Asia came into independence in 1991.
- Historical:
- "Jalalabad, in accordance with the auspicious title of the Shahinshah. It is a delightful spot and a partition (barzakh) between India and foreign countries [Central Asia]."[1]
- Modern study:
- “Abdali crossed the Khyber with 40,000 men-in-arms, early in December 1747, for his first expedition to India. He occupied Peshawar, the first military post on the Indian side of the border”[2] HistoricalWriting (talk) 08:57, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- Give WP:IDHT a thorough read. I already told you the WP:CT/SA classifies Afghanistan as part of South Asia and you have no authority to challenge that. WareWolf665 (talk) 10:29, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- @WareWolf665 for actual matter of relevance, don't remove Khizr Khan's Afghan origin again on pages again.
- You are accessing an article called List of Pashtun empires and dynasties just to remove Khizr Khan's Afghan origin. HistoricalWriting (talk) 09:02, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- Again, a classic case of WP:IDHT. If you had bothered reading my previous edit summaries, I already explained how an RfC (here) was held back in 2022 that decided Afghan origin CANNOT be included in the page.
- Unless some new, reliable and relevant secondary sources have been published after that (they haven't, I checked), this RfC CANNOT be challenged.
- Meanwhile, YOU aren't allowed to edit either the main or talk pages (apart from edit requests) until you reach ECP status.
- I have explained everything very clearly and patiently, even though you have been editing for some time and should know this.
- Desist from edit-warring, otherwise I will have no option but to report you.
- Regards WareWolf665 (talk) 10:42, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- I really doubt you're going to "report" me. I actually welcome it, you're just not going to.
- I already read the RfC, that Muntakhab al-Lubab is a primary source that's why it couldn't be featured, but the first source I gave is from the secondary source by a historian that attests to it[3] which you are trying to remove, but will fail in trying to do so. I followed this up with verifying the actual claim itself and demonstrating it. I also mentioned the 20th century historian S.H. Hodivala whose work debunks the mythical Indian origin of the Sayyid dynasty. This is because Khizr Khan was Afghan who took Sayyid title, or just Sayyid. - Indian subcontinent and Afghanistan do share history, genetics, culture and language. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 21:02, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
- same as Iran/Indian subcontinent, a country located in the Middle East. I think you understood my point fine. HistoricalWriting (talk) 08:48, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
