The Task Center
Learn what Wikipedians do and discover how to help. Has a list of maintenance tasks you can do.
- Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
- It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
- If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue on the article's talk page. Be civil, and reach a consensus there before restoring the edit.
- Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
- When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source. Do not use AI-generated text.
- If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
- Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Botticelli
[edit]With regret, I reverted your addition to the Botticelli article.
- Yes, he was one of the greatest painters but an important principle of Wikipedia is that we don't give our our own opinions but may only report what reliable sources say.
- Yes, the De' Medici family were is patrons but the purpose of the lead section is to summarise the most important points in the article. IMO, this is not one of those.
Please don't be discouraged by having your change reverted: that is how Wikipedia is supposed to work and among the reasons why it is so widely trusted. If you would like a better explanation, please ask at the Wikipedia:Teahouse. Welcome again to Wikipedia. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 23:11, 6 September 2026 (UTC)
... and you may notice that another editor agreed subsequently with your point 2 and reverted my reversion of that aspect of your edit and restored it. As it was borderline, I won't be arguing the point - see WP:consensus. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 10:48, 7 September 2026 (UTC)
