List of academic computer science departments

[edit]

This table is unreferenced and orphaned (no incoming links), and I suspect it's mostly outdated: List of academic computer science departments. Could be cleaned up and turned into a proper list. Another alternative is deleting it. Dreamyshade (talk) 04:50, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

I have deorphaned it. I don't support deleting it. ~Kvng (talk) 18:02, 10 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Request: Article on Yan Chen (computer scientist)

[edit]

Hello, I'd like to suggest an article about Yan Chen, Professor of Computer Science at Northwestern University, whose research focuses on network security, measurement, and AI-assisted system security.

Conflict of interest disclosure: I am the subject of this proposed article, so I will not write it myself. I'm sharing sources in case an independent editor finds the topic worth covering.

Possible notability under WP:PROF:

  • Elevated to IEEE Fellow (class of 2017) "for contributions to design, measurement, and security of networking systems" (Northwestern announcement)
  • ASPLOS Most Influential Paper Award, 2018, for the ASPLOS 2000 paper "OceanStore: an architecture for global-scale persistent storage" (SIGOPS announcement; SIGARCH award listing)
  • Over 18,000 citations, h-index 67 (Google Scholar profile)
  • General Chair, ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (CCS), 2011; Associate Editor, ACM/IEEE Transactions on Networking, 2014–2018

Independent coverage:

For disambiguation: DBLP profile (Yan Chen 0004); Northwestern faculty page

Thank you for considering this. Newyale (talk) 04:19, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

COI request: Help with Max Welling article?

[edit]

Hello! I'm reaching out as an employee of CuspAI, a company co-founded by computer scientist Max Welling. I've proposed an update to the Career and research section of the article - if any independent editors on this Wikiproject would be willing to take a look, it'd be much appreciated! Thank you! Request for independent academic notability assessment -- Philip R. Cohen

[edit]

I'm Philip R. Cohen, a computer scientist/AI researcher and the subject of a potential article, so I have an obvious conflict of interest.

Regarding WP Criteria 3 and 6, I am a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL), and served as President of ACL in 1999.

I've assembled a source dossier based on publicly available, independently checkable publications, award records, and scholarly assessments.

Would an editor be willing to take an independent look to determine whether the evidence warrants a Wikipedia article and, if so, potentially write one?

I'm happy to make the dossier available privately or post the supporting sources on-wiki in whatever format editors prefer.

With thanks,

Phil Cohen

@Prcohen01, sure, please list your WP:THREE strongest sources here and I'll have a look. WRT points 3 and 6 in WP:NPROF, fellowship at ACM is significant. It's not clear we'd consider the Association for Computational Linguistics to be a major academic society.
Some of us use h-index to help assess academic notability (Criteria 1) but Philip Cohen is a surprisingly common name so I'm having trouble looking that up. What university or institution are you primarily associated with?
Please be aware that even if we can establish your notability, subjects writing articles about themselves is strongly discouraged, WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY. ~Kvng (talk) 15:48, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think ACM Fellow is enough to establish academic notability by itself. Anything else is extra and unnecessary. —David Eppstein (talk) 18:14, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
