Duplicate content between Yahoo and Criticism of Yahoo

[edit]

Hi, I'm a COI editor for Yahoo (a client of my employer, Porter Novelli), posting here at Spintendo's suggestion to get more feedback on the discussion I started on the article talk page. (I also posted over at WP:NPOVN about a month ago, with no response.) I'm looking for input on how much the content of Yahoo should overlap with Criticism of Yahoo.

The Similar Page Checker tool shows that Yahoo is 44% similar to Criticism of Yahoo, and Duplication Detector identified numerous paragraphs that are verbatim between the two articles, including:

  • the entirety of the Criticism section, except for a few sentences under "DMCA notice to whistleblower" and "Censorship of private emails affiliated with Occupy Wall Street protests" – the rest is near-verbatim
  • commentary on the 2010 Yahoo! Groups remodel
  • a paragraph on a 2016 lawsuit
  • the paragraph on paid inclusion in 2004
  • the first paragraph on data breaches
  • commentary on the 2013 Flickr redesign
  • commentary on the Fox IT malware attack

This seems to have initially come about as part of a plan to merge the two articles, but Criticism of Yahoo passed its AFD nomination, resulting in the redundancy. Now the Criticism section is almost as long as the History section.

Per WP:SPINOFF (Summary sections are used in a broader article to briefly cover the content of more detailed subarticles.), I think it would make sense to convert the itemized content above into summary format and incorporate it into the History section rather than keeping it in a designated WP:CSECTION. Happy to take a pass at drafting this if other editors are aligned, but wanted to get feedback first in case I'm missing something about the duplication of content. Alternatively/additionally, I could rework "Criticism" as "Reception" (per WP:POVFORK, If possible, refrain from using "criticism" and instead use neutral terms such as "perception" or "reception"; if the word "criticism" must be used, make sure that such criticism considers both the merits and faults, and is not entirely negative), moving select items into History as appropriate.

Would love any input to help ensure this article reflects best practices. Thank you! Mary Gaulke (talk) 21:17, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads-up but we should continue the discussion at the article's talk page. ~Kvng (talk) 19:41, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

COI Request: Improving Document Cloud passage in Adobe Acrobat article

[edit]

Hello, I am an Adobe employee operating as a COI editor. I thought that there might be independent editors at this WikiProject interested in fielding an edit request I've posted on the Adobe Acrobat Talk page. My request is intended to improve a passage that lacks clarity and citations. It's pretty short, so I hope it won't take too much time and effort to review. Thanks! Request for neutral review of Draft:Samantha_Storr

[edit]

Hi — I'm the subject of Draft:Samantha_Storr (COI disclosed on the draft). The draft was declined in December for inadequate sourcing and broken links. I've since rewritten it with 15 working citations from independent sources (TechCrunch, AP, Adweek, BFI, Fast Company, etc.) covering the major notability claims: first UN VR film, Cannes Entertainment Grand Prix, TIME Best Inventions, Children's BAFTA. Would an uninvolved editor be willing to review the draft for neutrality and notability, and submit it if it meets the bar? Happy to answer any questions about sources. Thanks! Samanthastorr (talk) 22:58, 13 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Samanthastorr, this is going to be difficult to get approved because of WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY and WP:NOLLM.
If you list your WP:THREE best sources on the draft's talk page, I can give you a notability assessment.
One final quibble, please see WP:COIDISCLOSE; you have three choices for disclosure and the AfC comment, while appreciated, is not one of them. ~Kvng (talk) 15:29, 2 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

Elliptic (company) COI proposal

[edit]

Members of this WikiProject may be interested in these edit requests: Talk:Elliptic (company)#Page updates for October 2026. I have a COI as an Elliptic employee, so appreciate any independent feedback. Tdmoor (talk) 11:55, 27 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

In regards to the proposed explanation of Elliptic's 2015 shift toward blockchain analytics, what evidence supports the characterization of regulatory compliance as a primary driver of this transition? or Would it be more accurate to describe this as one factor in the company's development?
